Act like a Dragon Slayer

Training. Did Kade do this too much? Nah, he couldn’t. Well, alright he could train too much, but he wasn’t. He ate, he slept, he made time for his friends. He was mellowing out. He’d even gotten to spend the day with a very lovely dragon slayer. He doubted she would know what to say if he told her she was lovely, but it was true. Given Kade’s nature, he was likely to give her a flower and compliment her, but he didn’t think she would take that well either. Probably think he was flirting with her and be uncomfortable with it. When he’d asked her if she had a boyfriend she certainly hadn’t reacted with her usual confidence. And in that situation that both knew for certain neither of them were flirting.

Regardless, Kade was not with Kotone today. He was training now. Talking to her had certainly helped, and spending his time alone had been very beneficial. He felt guilty not being around for so long, but he was a guild wizard. It was just in the contract that he would be off doing jobs. Usually he gave warning though. It was lucky for him that Ava and Ambrose had been good enough to watch over his garden again.

[Kade Lazarus]

They were a fun little pair. However it wasn’t a time when his garden needed tending to. He walked away from Lamia Scale today near evening. Thins had already been accomplished that day. The flowers were watered, the plants harvested, the trees trimmed. Now it was time to work on something else he needed to maintain. His Dragon Slayer abilities. He constantly had a flow of light sinking into him during the day. It was beyond easy for him to stay nourished. But the sun was setting, and that was young to change. He needed to work on his expelling light. Most of his spells gave off light, if not all of them. That was easy. What wasn’t easy was going without someone noticing the oddness of his magic. His body turning into pure light. Most people just figured it was a coincidence. It just looked like that because he was covered in light. No, that wasn’t it, but he was happy to leave them confused about things. It was better than letting the whole world know he was a dragon slayer.
 
He jogged a good distance from his guild hall to do his training. It was getting dark and he knew someone was going to see the light he would produce. That wasn’t ideal, but if they didn’t physically see it, then he wouldn’t have any questions to answer. They would just assume it was his generic light magic. Not the one spell he needed to practice.

Breathe Light. It was a spell Kade never used. He hadn’t used it more than a handful of times since he left his island home. It was a dead giveaway. How many wizards used elemental magic? Many of them. How many wizards opened their mouths and let out a cannon of their elemental magic? None, except dragon slayers. A dead giveaway. He needed to keep that spell under wraps. He made a point to work on other spells so he would never be reduced to that one. It was unfortunate though, because it was a personal spell. It was his spell, and it made him the dragon slayer he was. It didn’t make him feel close to Celtor, Celtor was gone, long gone… but it did make him feel like he was respecting his training. Even if he never wanted to rely on this spell in a pinch, he should still make it powerful. Would training this magic limit his other magic? No, it would just give him one more spell he could rely on. And if he ever had to stake his claim as a dragon slayer this would do it. It would be pretty stupid to actually try to convince people he was a slayer though. Did anyone actually go around claiming to be a dragon slayer who wasn’t? None that he’d heard of.

[Kade Lazarus]

With the light in the atmosphere fading, Kade couldn’t draw that to himself to help his spell. He would have to do this himself. He felt like a cannon. Or a dragon. It was odd. This spell, more than any of the others, made him feel like a dragon. So Kade opened his mouth, feeling the warm energy charge up before it shot out at a nearby tree. Not good enough… He took a deep breath, exhaling another stream of light. A few more attempts and the spell was getting bigger. It wasn’t meant to be a large spell, honestly. It was just meant to be powerful. Fast and strong. Neither of those were really Kade’s personal best traits. He was sturdy and he was smart. That didn’t make him a speed demon or a juggernaut.
 
Kade tried again, inhaling, inhaling, inhaling. His throat started to burn. Maybe because his jaw was open so wide, maybe because of the light energy, maybe just because of the magic in general. Whatever it was, it burned, but it didn’t hurt. He let out the stream of light, but even before it hit the first tree he tilted his head upward. The beam of light smashing into that first tree, searing a line in it as the power went skyward. He looked like a beacon. He could be someone’s personal floodlight. That could come in handy, but as the spell wore itself down he found himself panting. It was a bit too much energy for him to use in one strong blast, but it was an awesome thing to accomplish.
 
The panting but happy dragon slayer sat down. He could see the tree, and felt like the air was brighter, despite the setting sun. He lay down now, looking at the sky. The sun… reminiscent of his power, and of fire. He didn’t know any fire dragon slayer, but there must be one. Like there must be a shadow dragon slayer. One who loved the setting sun like he loved the rising one. Kade closed his eyes, time to rest.
