Animal trouble

[Charlotte]

The first thing she did was sigh when she got his letter. She remembered telling him to call her whenever he needed her but she was hoping he wouldn’t call her out to another uneventful mission where all he would do is cling to her like a child clinging to his mother. Hopefully, he is requesting her for something rather sane this time. Nonetheless, Charlotte decided that she would go see him and ask him what’s wrong. If things turned out to be the same as before….she wants to say she will leave but she probably won’t. Knowing her, she would get him to his destination again and would disappear just like the last time. But in all honesty, she was hoping for something important rather than rabbits and crows to happen today. She looked at the letter once and went out, giving orders to the guards to take care of everything while she was away. Ever since Kai turned to a freaking drunkard, Charlotte had to run around the whole place to take care of things along with the crazy reports she had to write every single day. So, in a way, she was glad Reye asked her to meet him.

She found him standing at the front of council headquarters trying to fend a dog off with a piece of stick.  Amusedly, she raised an eyebrow at him as she made her way towards the now curled up Reye and stopped in front of him, giving the dog a glare and effectively scaring him off. “Charlotte!” She heard and had no time to react as she felt hands wrap around her and a weight on her shoulder. “Reye….” She sighed, pulling herself away from him. “Reye, tell me you are here for something serious…” she told, giving him a ‘this better be something serious’ look as she kept her hands on her hips.

“Uhh yeah about that..I need you to escort me again. This time, along with other valuable items, I’m exporting some celestial keys too. So…I really need protection and lately, I have really felt the presence of someone behind me. I mean….it’s really really there! I’m not imagining things!” he cried, begging the amber eyed girl with his eyes. After a few minutes of silence, Charlotte nodded yes with a sigh. Like she said, it was a great opportunity to get out of the council for a few days. “Fine…but you are paying me a lot more than what you paid me before,” she said before taking off in the direction of worth woodsea. This seriously better be important or she was going to slap Reye senseless till he gets over his fear.

And that’s how they started their journey. Walking through the woods, Charlotte ignored almost all of Reye’s comments about something watching him and decided to give him a small glare whenever he tried to hold onto her. The weird part of this whole thing was that she didn’t get the feeling of being watched at all while Reye was just super jumpy about it. Ever since they stepped into the forest, Reye was already on her back, clinging to her while she dragged him along with her. She tried to shake him off of course but every time that happened, he would come back to cling on her again. She had to draw a line between them at last to give him a clear idea to stay away from her. All things considered, the journey so far wasn’t so eventful. Sure, she heard some weird noises here and there but none of them turned out to be troublesome mages or powerful wizards or candy witches but they were one animal or another. It was weird how so many animals were near them. As far as Charlotte knew, not many animals come close to people while they are walking through. At least, there were no reports of travelers getting attacked by animals so far.

She even found a rabbit on top of her once after investigating which is more strange cause small animals like rabbits never come out to the eyes of travelers. So in a way, Charlotte wasn’t able to completely rule out Reye’s paranoid reactions as nothing more than mental issues. In fact, she believed that there was something making these animals act the way they are. All she needed was some sort of confirmation of this and she could easily find who is behind this in time. So far, other than the appear out of nowhere trick, the animals haven’t shown any aggressive or violent behavior. In fact, they were just there hiding in bushes and leaves watching them…as if keeping an eye on them.

Charlotte’s eyes narrowed as she took in the possibilities of such things. It was definitely possible. There really just could be someone out there keeping an eye out for them. Well, her questions and suspicions were answered when the paws of some dogs came out of the bushes to their left. “Uh hu….I think I just got my answer, “she muttered as she pushed Reye towards her back. There were only three and they could be easily taken care of if Charlotte used her magic. But the most important part of the whole thing turned out to be the fact that she could have been right about the whole ‘someone watching their moves’ thing. Obviously, whoever it is, he can control the animals and probably wants the celestial keys Reye is transporting. All she had to do was use her lightning body spell when the dogs lunched at her, forcefully trying to push her back. But as the electricity from her body started flowing towards the dogs, they gave out loud howls before passing out on the ground. After all, they were just dogs. “Reye, how long have it been since you felt this someone is watching me thing?” She asked as she turned back to a cowering Reye. “Uhmm well it was always there but usually when I transport celestial keys. I always have a companion with me whenever I’m going through this forest…but I could still feel someone staring at my back,” he finally said with a big sigh, earning a pat on the shoulder by Charlotte. “Don’t worry. I have a feeling we are gonna find out soon.”

A few hours after the first attack of the dogs, were uneventful. They had their lunch under the shade of a tree and had started walking again. It would take them about a day and two nights to get to their destination but ever after Charlotte fought off the dogs, Reye seemed to be less jumpy, probably realizing the fact that Charlotte would be able to protect him if anything happens. He was less clingy too which Charlotte was thankful for even though she found him jumping around for every little noise he heard. He was still paranoid…heh though Charlotte was starting to be paranoid too. She knew there is someone following them in the shadows. It was kind of obvious for the amber eyed girl now.

She had her eyes and ears keen on getting some sort of reaction from the wilderness all around them. For the last few hours, other than the strange feeling of having someone follow them with their eyes, nothing or anything appeared before them. Strange indeed. With that, Charlotte sighed as she found Reye following her with his head down. She wanted to ask him something is wrong but she could already guess what is eating him up. Stress. He has his job to do yet because of some uneasy feelings, he can’t help but think someone is going to ambush him any second. Having someone like Charlotte around can help very little, she thought with a sigh again.

The sound of something groaning broke Charlotte out of her thoughts as she found a huge boar standing right in front of her with a glint in its eyes. Charlotte raised an eyebrow as the boar groaned again as if inviting her for a battle where she sweat dropped finding the boar amazingly hilarious. She rolled her eyes as she scratched the back of her head with another sigh. “Alright…so let’s do this, boar san” she said with a grin.

As the boar charged at her, she used her lightning balls. The spark ball hit the boar on its side, as she evaded the boar from his frontal attack. It groaned loudly as it went down to the ground. “So….anyone want boar meat for tonight?” she asked Reye as he furiously shook his head, still in shock from the whole attack, making Charlotte giggle at how Reye curled back into a ball again for the nth time that day. “I’ll take that as a no…” she stuck her tongue out before grabbing his arms and walking forward again. “Come on, we still have a long way to go. Reye,” she said cheerfully as Reye still kept staring at the wild boar that was groaning and moaning on the ground giving him a tear filled look with its big eyes. Somehow, Reye has a soft spot for animals, she concluded with a chuckle inside her head.

Two hours later, Charlott and Reye were still walking through the forest with nothing but themselves and some animals for company. So far, everything that happened only increased her suspicion of something following them and so far, she wondered if the person behind this would show up or not. Well, she must have gotten her wish for she found a wizard standing in front of them. Reye seemed to have backed up a lot at the appearance of him and Charlotte too had become a bit weary with the appearance of this guy for there was something about him that told Charlotte he is stronger than he appears to be. She didn’t pay much attention to that fact though as she only had one priority right then and that was protecting Reye.

For a moment, she stepped back before letting the guy come closer to her. He was going on and on about how his animal controlling magic had no effect on the girl who defeated them. He was hoping for Charlotte to run away apparently, leaving Reye defenseless soo that he can steal from him. He got an unhappy surprise when Charlotte easily fought off all the wild animals and stayed sane throughout the journey. Now, he was just plain irritated and wants to take matters into his own hands and defeat Charlotte. It didn’t take her any Sherlock to give her the idea that this guy was a celestial mage. That gave her the reason why he is going after Reye, at least.

As she summoned her whips, she found some wild boars coming after her. It only took a small swing of her whips along with a spin to deflect them all backwatds though. And an impatient wizard was getting even more impatient as he took out a celestial key from his pockets. “Uh huh no can do,” Charlotte teased as she swung the whip at his hands, effectively knocking the key out of his hands. “You ain’t summoning anything…sorry” she said, charging towards him with her whips at her side. The man looked surprised for a second and she could see that he was going to use his magic again. But just in time, Charlotte managed to use a roundhouse kick on him along with the fast use of her whips to completely disarm him and send him stumbling back to the ground. She made sure he was unable to move before getting off of him. She didn’t want that guy causing more troubles for them nor did she want him following them anymore. She would make sure someone arrests this guy later or maybe she will let him go with this lesson. Either way, she turned around to Reye to give him a small smile. “Sorry I didn’t believe you before,” she said before motioning him a “let’s go” with an even bigger smile.
