"Help us, please? We think our son has gotten himself mixed up in a dangerous underground fighting arena. He comes home with bruises and refuses to talk about it. He used to be such a good boy!"
The words rang in the seventeen year old's ears even through the cheers of the crowd of ne'er-do-wells that surrounded her. It hadn't been easy getting into the tournament. After all, the girl hardly looked like the fighter she was, and the fact that she wore a white blouse, a red skirt, a loose tie of a matching color, and a long, black jacket adorned with cat ears didn't help. The receptionist hadn't wanted to let her in because of this. At least not until his desk had fallen into two neat pieces. The receptionist had been a man who looked like he'd taken a bulldozer to the face. Kotone figured that the thugs must be pretty good at brawls if they were doing this for a living. She hoped she was right - after all, the dragon slayer hoped for a challenge.
As she broke through the crowd into the roped off area that the combatants used as an arena, she saw a large red-headed man waiting for her. He was the first opponent she was to face - a burly man with the hillarious name of Sue. She figured that was probably why he was punching people; she probably would if her name had been Sue, and she was a girl.
Kotone crossed her arms and grinned a cocky smile as the man serving as the announcer began their introductions. "Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the arena! In tonight's match lineup, we have a new challenger! Let's start off by introducing the large man in the left corner! Burly, strong, and able to take down a man in a single punch, Sue Liz!" Even as the crowd cheered, the redheaded man spoke up "I told you not to call me that!" he shouted angrily even as the crowed roared over him. Kotone had no trouble hearing him, and her cocky expression increased. "And in this corner, a scary young woman with ice magic, a girl by the name of Kotone Hoshino!" The crowd didn't cheer quite as loud for that one. In fact, some of them seemed rather concerned that the match would be one-sided.
Fortunately for them, they were right. Unfortunately, they were betting on the wrong competitor. As the bell rang, the man named Sue charged the girl, believing she would be an easy target. Kotone didn't move until the last moment, however, and swiftly dodged the magically-augmented punch he threw. Poison magic. That was how he won with a single punch. Kotone could smell the toxin surrounding the man's hand. As she dodged, she kicked the back of Sue's knee, sending him tumbling down. It wasn't just her ice magic that was scary: Kotone Hoshino was the ice dragon slayer, and her strength was equal to that of someone far bigger than her. It often took enemies by surprise, and this was no exception.
Sue came crashing down, and even as he did, Kotone continued her attack. She had every intention of showing off in order to get the crowd on her side. The brunette girl sent a punch flying downwards, towards the large man's face. Her aim wasn't at his face, however, and as her punch hit the ground, it cracked the concrete underneath. She didn't care that it cut into one of her knuckles as she did. As predicted, Sue's eyes went wide as he realized that the concrete might have been his skull. "Okay I give I give! Pleasedon'thurtme!" he whimpered as he curled up for defense. Shaking her fist as she stood up, the girl's grin returned. She had won as fast as she had thought she would.
"She doesn't look like much but she's incredible!" the announcer shouted into the voice-enhancing lacrima. "We have a winner!" Kotone shrugged, turning around and walking back to her position. She went until she lost, and if she beat all the other contestants, she would take the prize. She wasn't after the prize. She was after a certain contestant, and this seemed like the best way to drag him home to his mommy and daddy. Or at least the most fun. She just hoped someone would actually be a challenge before the night was through. She would like to have a reason to use her magic, after all.

Re: Enter the Spell Breaker: Underground Fighting Tournament (Rank C)
The crowd continued to roar as the teenage girl waited for her next competitor. Looking down at the warm sensation, she was reminded that she'd cut herself when she punched the ground. Shaking her hand again, a few splatters of blood hit the floor as she put her injured hand in her uninjured one. A small amount of ice covered the wound, acting as a temporary bandage. "That's better," Kotone muttered to herself as the challenger finally made his way into the ring.
He was an older man. She'd seen their pictures. Rusty Tygart. He wanted to relive his glory days in the arena. Kotone almost felt bad bursting his bubble. "The new challenger, you know him, you love him, a regular challenger in the arena - RUSTY TYGART!" The crowd cheered, chanting his name. Or rather, some of them did. Kotone's easy victory had earned her at least some of these idiots' respect. She liked hearing her name chanted. More people would be chanting 'Kotone' before the night was through, if she could help it. And she could.
The bell rang yet again, but this time, the girl's opponent didn't make a move. He was waiting for her. Kotone was fine with that. She preferred to go on the offensive anyway. "What's the matter, old man? Bad back?" she asked him as she shifted her stance to a more aggressive one. "Heh, you'll eat those words, little girl. Much as I hate to have to mess up that pretty face." He was a jerk. Good. She didn't have to feel so bad taking a dinosaur down a few pegs.
Kotone ran at Rusty, throwing a punch with her uninjured hand. Rusty had been ready for Kotone, unlike her last oppnent, and blocked her punch. He was actually surprisingly fit for his age, as far as Kotone was concerned. As he blocked, he kicked her leg, throwing her off balance. "Woah," Kotone stumbled back. He really was a veteran of combat.
As she stumbled back, Rusty charged at her, a rock-like shield forming on his shoulder. He bashed into Kotone, sending her flying back. It hurt, but Kotone was just getting started, herself. She landed on her back, but rolled to her feet without missing a beat. Kotone gave the man a triumphant glare as a sword of ice appeared in her hand. Anything went in these matches, and she wasn't going to let him get another hit like that.
Launching herself at the old man again, she swung her sword. He dodged, barely, and tried to jab her in the gut. Kotone parried his attack with her free arm, twisting and bringing the sword down on him. The flat of the blade crashed against his skull with a thud, and the earth wizard stumbled back this time. Flipping the sword to attack with the pommel, the dragon slayer hit Tygart in the gut, doubling him over. She was going to finish it this time. Her knee met his chin as he lurched forward, and Tygard came crashing down to the hard floor. He was out cold.
"And the winner.... Kotone Hoshino! The upstart that packs quite a punch! You might want to reconsider your bets folks. She doesn't seem to be going anywhere just yet!" Kotone watched as the man was dragged, unconscious, out of the arena. Her sword vanished as quickly as it had appeared into tiny, snow-like ice shards that dissipated as they floated away. Her hands returned to her jacket pockets as the crowd cheered louder than they had before. Even some of Tygart's fans had been won over, it seemed. This wasn't exactly a huge event.
She knew who her next opponent had to be - the kid she was after. She'd heard rumors he was expected to win tonight. He might be more of a challenge. "Okay, kid. You're coming home with me," she muttered as he stepped into the ring. He didn't look phased by her quick victories. That was good. Kotone grinned as big as she dared without revealing her fangs. Even if he wasn't a challenge, she'd at least be getting paid. She was more than okay with that.

Re: Enter the Spell Breaker: Underground Fighting Tournament (Rank C)
This was it. The final match, and the one that she had come here for in the first place. The kid's parents hadn't asked her for this, but if she could scare him out of these sort of things for good, they'd probably appreciate it. Even if they wouldn't know it at the time. "The final challenger: Winner of the arena for the last four matches with barely a scratch on him: Daniel, better known as the Shadow Dragon!" if the crowd had been loud before, it really roared now. He really was popular. And with a name like that, the one with real ties to dragons was looking forward to knocking him into next week.
"Can the upstart Kotone defeat the Shadow Dragon? If you haven't placed your bets folks, too late now! Round three: Fight!" At the sound of the third bell, Kotone and Daniel took off to the side, circling in the same direction. Daniel didn't waste much time. Seeing that she wasn't charging him, he raised his hand, firing a ray of dark energy at the dragon slayer. The ray traveled fast - too fast for her to dodge it outright. Instead, she stopped. As she did, a barrier of ice surrounded her, causing the ray to slam into it. As it did, she allowed the barrier to shatter harmlessly around her.
"Not bad girl, not bad at all! But quick reflexes won't stop you from beating the Shadow Dragon!" "You call yourself the Shadow Dragon? A punk like you doesn't deserve a title like that!" Kotone was annoyed. Annoyed by being referred to like a child, for him claiming to have dragon-like powers, and also for his stupid grin. "Oh? You'll be singing a different tune when I'm through with you, kid!" In truth, he was maybe slightly older than her, so referring to each other as kids was an insult on both of their ends. Kotone, however, didn't take insults as well as she dished them out.
"I'll show you!" Dashing towards her opponent, she kicked high. He ducked low with a grin. "Too slow!" With a swift punch, he hit her in the gut and staggered her back a step or two before she recovered. As she stood up, she blocked a second attack and dodged a follow-up kick. Rolling to the side, she saw him still grinning that annoying grin as she stood up and took her stance again.
"Now! I'm going to finish this!" Daniel shouted excitedly. Even as he did the area was becoming darker. Much darker. Within a moment Kotone couldn't see a thing. "It looks like he's using his Dark Cloud ability!" came the anouncer's voice. "No one has ever beaten him inside the dark cloud! Too bad none of us can see what's going on, heheh!" The crowd roared, some angrily at their view being blocked, others in anticipation for what would appear out of the darkness when it was over.
Crap. Kotone couldn't see a thing. She looked around desperately, trying to see anything she could. But it was useless. Suddenly, she felt an impact on her right shoulder, sending her reeling backwards. She caught herself and rolled, standing back up only to take another hit, this time to the cheek. She had to calm down. She was a dragon slayer. She didn't need her sight. She had her sense of smell and her hearing as well.
As she relaxed mentally, she found she could smell his approximate position. It wasn't perfect but at least she could also hear his footsteps as clearly as she could see them. She knew what to look for now. And where to look for her own secret weapon. "Sorry, little boy, I'm taking you home to mommy and daddy! Ice Dragon Roar!" With those final words, a beam of frozen energy blasted out of her mouth, catching Daniel square in the chest. As he blasted out of the now rapidly shrinking darkness, he skidded to a halt near the edge of the arena.
"What was that?! Could it be? This ice user has frozen the Shadow Dragon in his tracks! I'm hearing that he's actually out cold as well! We have a winner! Kotone Hoshino!" Kotone listened to the cheers and the angry roars for a moment, satisfied with herself. Walking over to the unconcious man, she picked him up herself, throwing him over her shoulder. She was allowed to leave with her prize; after all, she'd left a pretty big impression, as well as a nice block of ice on the back wall.
The dragon slayer sighed. Another job well done. Helping people really was her calling in life. Especially if it involved getting to knock punk kids out.
