Masks and beasts (Eternal)

[Atrum Furea]

Atrum groaned as he sat on the bench outside of the Crossroads storefront, these past few jobs had been tiring.   He had owed the place for all the food he ate when he had assisted the Spell Breaker in her rescue of an under-aged wizard, the kind of place that traded food and information for favors was definitely his kind of place.  Still he couldn't help but be a bit annoyed at all the heavy lifting they had him doing, how many people were trying to get out of repaying the place?   He growled in displeasure, you always paid your dues, the Crossroads was legit no reason to skimp on payment.  Still someone was so he had to go remind them that they owed the place.  The things he did to have good connections, even with his obvious displeasure with the situation the soft smile he was known for still rested upon his face.  

"Right then, there is no point in lazing about.  I got five more wizards to visit to remind them they are behind schedule."  He said stretching and standing up to his full enormous height, his odd appearance only accented by his size.  "If I waste time they may get someone to scold me as well."  He joked aloud starting to walk down the street, the day was nice again today wasn't it?  It seemed these pleasant sun filled days always had something in store for the foreign giant, something that entertained him for his trouble.  All  he had to do was hope that whatever was in store for him on this fine day would show up before the light left the sky.  "Let us go forth and fulfill our duty as warriors my kin.  The Battle will not wait for us."  He spoke to himself feeling a bit more poetic than usual, it felt like a pleasant beginning to an enjoyable afternoon.

It was a cloudless day as two figures where walking down the main road to Magnolia. One was a little girl of four, about three feet, wearing a black dress with a white ribbon around her waist. Her white hair reach the small of her back and blue eyes look around in boredom. The other was an man of twenty three. He was wearing a red long shelve shirt and dark blue pants. A red scarf cover the bottom of his face, only showing his eyes. His hair, white as the girls, is pull back in a low pony tail.

"Father are we there yet?" The small girl ask as the boredom finally became to much. Instead of answering he just point to the gate, nearly hidden, out at the end of the trail. With a spring in there step, they reach the gate in pace. After a little time later they left their hotel and started their walk around town. "Scarlet, why don't we go get some lunch? Afterward we can get some ice-cream."

With wide eyes the little girl, now known as Scarlet, begin to runs down the street. Her father walking behind her, keep her in sight. With the thought of ice-cream, she didn't see the man that she crash into.

Atrum blinked as he felt something run into him the surprised had caught him off guard, and he lost his balance causing him to fall over onto his rear. He made a growling noise in response to the dull pain his fall had inflicted on him and looked at the one who had managed to tip him over. A small little thing had defeated the giant this day and he had no one to blame but himself. He sighed and gave the girl his signature soft smile doing his best not to show his fanged shark like teeth. He didn't want to scare the young one, that would get him into more trouble than it was worth. A child, she had to have a guardian around somewhere nearby, if only because he didn't recognize her from around magnolia.he stood himself up and stretched out his back, eliciting a small crack from it.

"Hello there little one, you should not run around like that without your guardian." He spoke softly adjusting his straw looking hat, He looked around to see if anyone was obviously related to her, as safe as Magnolia was there still danger that lurked about. Goons that bullied those that were by themselves, the few dark wizards that were around. Magnolia had it easy in comparison to other places thanks to Fairy Tail but the dangers still existed. "You should go back to them, Magnolia is a peaceful place but no without it's own dangers." He said politely, he wasn't sure how old this child was but he was sure that it was a child. Better make sure she was safe before he went on his way, he couldn't live with himself if he left a child to fend for themselves. Well he was expecting something to happen today wasn't he?

'What da? Damn Scarlet!' Was the only thought of one Eternal Ruby Blaze as he jog up to his crying daughter. It was going all well until she, mange to bump into someone, a giant no less, and begin to show the sign of a bawl. He quickly made it over to hear the man last question before the water works begin. "Hello there little one, you should not run around like that without your guardian. You should go back to them; Magnolia is a peaceful place but no without its own dangers."

“Scarlet, sweetie, come here.” He say across the walk way, coming up to them. He barely had the time to get to them when Scarlet shoots to his arms. Giving her a once over, twice, and hiding her from view, he look at the man with a slight glare of a father. He was wears a white button-up dress shirt under a vest with black slack. The top of the face was cover by his straw hat. Also from what he see he have a bit of muscle on him.

With a quite sigh, he looks back to Scarlet, who manages to calm down during the time. Not wanting to cause a fight where she might get hurt, he lessens his glare and offer a small smile to the man. “Sorry about that, she got a little excited when I mention getting ice-cream.” He made a notice that she brighten up at that mention. “Hope you not hurt too badly,” He doubted it, “how bout I treat you to some lunch?”

Atrum could feel the man's glare without even looking at his face, this man was her guardian no doubt about it. He put a hand on his chest and gave a small bow, attempting to be polite in this unexpected encounter. The man was tall for this region as from what he could tell was mostly covered in clothing that covered his form making him hard to get a proper look at. As the why he was wearing this particular type of clothing he couldn't guess, but he was definitely not one to critique ones dressing preference. He adjusted his hat again smiling at the man still attempting to hide his fanged maw. He was happy the girl was in proper care, that was definitely a load of his back. At least he didn't have to run around looking for her parents or something, that would've definitely cut into his day.

"I am fine good sir. It would not be the first time I have been knocked over by someone far smaller than I." He said chuckling at the small joke he made, trying to lighten the overall mood in the air. "I could not force you to pay for my meal because of something small like this." He said putting his hands up feeling suddenly awkward, he wasn't used to people offering him anything honestly. "Besides I eat more than the average person and I haven't eaten much today I wouldn't want to deal such a blow to your wallet like this." He insisted hoping the man would not allow Atrum to drain whatever he had on hand, he had little self control when it came to food. "Maybe we should Introduce ourselves before we go much further." he began trying to gain what composure he lost back before he gave in to his stomach. "Greeting my name is Atrum Furea of Fairy Tail it is a pleasure to meet you." He stated romeving his hat and placing it on his chest.

He expected many things, from accepting to refusing, but what he didn't expect that this man, Atrum Furea he muses, was a member of Fairy Tail. 'Well this made my job easier.' With a quick movement that shifts Scarlet, he brought his scarf down to his neckline. “Hm, if that the case, it’s understandable. Still I would like you company for a meal. Or, to be more clearly, a Fairy Tail guide member Mr. Furea.” Setting Scarlet down, she was getting restless, he rose up to meet Atrum eyes, after all, the eyes are the window of the soul.
“First thing first, I am Eternal Ruby Blaze, Paladin of the Magic Council. And this lovely lady here is my daughter, Scarlet Kira Blaze.” He noted that Scarlet did a little cruise, “I’m the bi-season overseer, so I’ll need you to escort me to the guild. This is our first time being here and all.” He idly wonders how long he will be here anyways? All he had to do was state new rules, enforce any rule that where broken, and take off old one that are no longer needed.

Atrum raised an eye brow at his new acquaintance's response to his attempt at dodging the meal and regained his lost composure. This man didn't seem to be lying, he had the right feel of a man here on the word of the Magic council, Atrum felt that he was telling the truth but it was alway better the be safe rather than sorry. He was originally a foreigner after all,and it wouldn't be the first time someone tried to take advantage of his ignorance. though no one had been so bold as to bring a child into their schemes, as much as he was sure this man was most likely on the up and up he resolved to be on guard just in case. He gave Eternal a soft smile pulled his hat off his head and gave the paladin a short but proper bow, and upon noticing the young one who had bumped into him giving him a curtsy gave her a a similar bow along with a more earnest pleasant smile. Children posed a strange issue for Atrum, he wasn't good at dealing with them but they easily got on his good side and disarmed him.

"I see very well then, since it appears you are new in town I shall do my best to guide you around my home." He said replacing his hat back upon his head and giving a small chuckle amused with his situation. Things always had a way of happening around this town, he was sure he had experienced the worst this continent had to offer in the war anyways. "Though I must admit, I've never heard of your position before. though it may because I've only been here for a few years at the most without the war hanging overhead." He stated simply, a pressure on his gut anticipation? He could figure what was causing it. He didn't deal with the government of Fiore often he was probably just getting antsy because of the new situation. It was nothing he couldn't handle, he was sure of this besides the guy seemed decent enough. Nothing abrasive about the man and the look in his eyes didn't give Atrum the feeling he was dealing with anything less than a decent person. "I look forward to getting along well with you both in the future Eternal, Scarlet." He finished, still smiling not letting the soft smile grow into a eager grin, most people didn't like his teeth.

"I see very well then, since it appears you are new in town I shall do my best to guide you around my home." Atrum side, tipping his hat to us, "Though I must admit, I've never heard of your position before though it may because I've only been here for a few years at the most without the war hanging overhead." He seems to be getting antsy, so is Scarlet. "I look forward to getting along well with you both in the future Eternal, Scarlet." Why is he still forcing a smile? Eternal just shake his head and made for him to walk along.

“Well the war did break most of the routine but we building it up. I mostly just need to talk to the guild leader about new rules, old ones that no longer needed, and the likes. It mostly will take an hour or two at most then just make sure everything goes smoothly.” He told Atrum, once aging holding Scarlet. “Do you think one of your guild member can watch Scarlet? It round her nap ti-Ouch! Scarlet!” Yup, see is a blaze. Her kick prove it pretty much. Looking around he saw that they were almost there. “Well then, let get this out the way, huh?”

"I see that is interesting." The Giant said to himself more than anyone else, to be honest he was slightly worried that the council knew of his short partnership with the Spell Breaker. The one thing he had heard about the council was that they could be rather, unreasonable when it came to the enforcement of their laws. He really hoped that didn't cause any backlash for his guild, though he was almost certain that the dirty council member would've been a more pressing matter since their outfit would be inspected after such an embarrassing defeat. Still the little nagging voice in the back of his head whispered it's paranoid warnings to him, if anything he would be ever on his toes. He didn't think his fears applied to these two but that voice was pretty persistent for a nagging worry. He wagered that his paranoia was simply catching up to him, his emotions had a habit of coming up hardest when they would be most inconvenient.

"Well if she lets them I'm sure someone in the guild would be happy to watch the young lady While you are busy." He stated answering automatically without actually listening to what Eternal was saying. He was more or less lost in thought but that didn't keep him from reacting, most people wouldn't be able to tell the difference as long as they kept talking. He lead the two council affiliates into his guild and he instantly relaxed. The unnecessary thoughts pilling in his head had fled in the wake of his return to his new home. He breathed in and sighed, this was much better he was at peace here. He opened the door and held it open for his two guests and waved them in. "Eternal, Scarlet. I welcome you to the Guildhall of Magnolia's own Fairy Tail. May your business here be pleasant." He with a small flourish of the hand and voice feeling a bit more playful now that he was home.

(Sorry about that had a bit of trouble writing there for a bit.)

He stop sat the front door of the guild house, looking at the building in front of him. It was we'll use and look like it an mix of old and new. "So this is the infamous Fairytail." He umbel under his breath, dreading for the meeting. He turn back to Artum to shake his hand. "It was nice meeting you Artum, I hope you have an nice day for the rest of the day. Let's meet again sometime." With his pace say, he walk with Scarlet through the mighty door, wanting the day to end already. "Excuse me ma'am, can you lead me to your guild master? I from the council and need to speak with her."

After reaching the office and requesting someone to look after Scarlet, he got down to work. Checking all records and getting ride of old rules was first and done with. The hard part was posting the new rules and enforcing the ones in place. From what other people say it get messy cause guild master tend to butt head with them. And he totally agreed with them. "I don't care if you don't like it, it gonna happen no matter what, alright!"

Atrum removed his hat towards Eternal for the final time before they parted ways, the man was interesting and slightly hard to read but that may be simply because Atrum had so little interactions with him to read. This meeting was interesting but not much fun and that left him feeling a bit disappointed but he couldn't say that he was saddened by this meeting. Eternal was an interesting man and he would likely continue to be so for some time. "That would be pleasant, let us me again sometime." He agreed replacing his hat back onto his head as he suddenly remembered that he had chores to do today. He made a groaning noise and gave a final farewell to Eternal before rushing out to continue his chores. He had completely forgotten about his bill that he owed the Crossroads!

"Aw Blazing Hells you have got to be kidding me. I can not believe I forgot about the jobs I owe the Crossroads! They are so going to be angry with me, this is seriously annoying." He complained as he ran from the guild he called home back onto the streets of magnolia. He'd have to meet up with Eternal after he wasn't in debt and have a real conversation, or maybe he could find someone to have a sparing match with. Either way he had work to do before he could have some fun. "This really sucks." He grinned, at least he had his health.
